ACLS Course Preparation

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) builds on the foundation of lifesaving Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR.  This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

There are several options for completing ACLS course program.  If you are a medical professional described below and have never attended an ACLS Course or do not utilize these skills on a regular basis, you should complete the full two (2) day class-room based certification course.
If you have completed the ACLS course previously, have an ACLS Provider Card in good standing, and utilize your skills on a regular basis, you may take the ACLS Recertification program which is a eight (8) hour course completed in one day.

Before taking the ACLS Course, students must pass the online ACLS Pre-course Self-Assessment.  This test is part of the ACLS student website (access granted with purchase of the ACLS Provider Manual – See purchasing instructions below).

·         Students must successfully demonstrate skills competency in all learning station

·         Pass the high-quality BLS Skills Test
·         Pass the Bag-Mask Ventilation with OPA/NPA Insertion Test
·         Pass the Megacode Test
·         Pass the ACLS Exam with a score of 84% or higher

Classroom-based training is entirely instructor-led.  Students complete the entire course in one video-based classroom session with an instructor, which covers course content, skills practice and testing.  Hands-on instruction with an American Heart Association Instructor allows students to practice skills and ask questions throughout the course.
